Part of the digital toolset of SavantTools.com

WINDOW TABS LOCK:

click button to turn lock on

PURPOSE:   Stop accidental closure of multiple tabs.

HOW TO USE:   1.) Turn it On. 2.) Keep this tab open.

When asked "Leave site?", click "Cancel" or hit the escape button. This will prevent the window from closing and losing other opened tabs.

IMPORTANT:   Stop Chrome from de-activating this tab.

1.)  Open: Settings > Performance > General > "Always keep these sites active".
2.)  Add "savanttools.com" to the list.

URL for the settings: chrome://settings/performance

WHY:  Chrome browser has a "memory saver feature" that will put older tabs into an inactive status, sort of like a sleep state for tabs. If this page is inactivated by Chrome, then it will not work as expected.

DETAILS:  Without a Window-Tabs-Lock, if you accidentally close a web browser window, Chrome will not warn you. Chrome browser will happily close dozens of tabs inside the window without confirming that you really want to do that.

With this Window-Tabs-Lock, if you try to close the window that it's inside, you will be warned, and that can save all the other tabs inside the same window.

This tool is designed for the Google Chrome web browser, but it might also be useful for other browsers such as Firefox and Microsoft Edge.

If you close a window by accident, you can also try this method to recover lost tabs:
Open: 3-dots menu button > History > Recent tabs.
If you don't recover the window immediately, this method may not work.

The concept of this browser-tabs-lock page might also be referred to as a "session saver" or "tab saver", but this web page can not actually see any other open tabs and therefor it can not literally save a session. It is just to stop you from accidentally closing the window that contains your "session".

There are other solutions that potentially do this better, such as the "Chrome Close Lock" extension. However browser extensions, addons, and UserScripts all require you to trust the creator. Chrome extensions and similar often have the ability to do unsafe or malicious things. This web page is very simple, entirely client side, and self-contained within one tab. It can not do anything unsafe.
